About
Brett Shields, LPCC
Using a person-centered approach, I take on a non-judgmental stance and let the client determine what it is that they would like to work on in session. While meeting clients wherever they are in their life, I work collaboratively towards goals that they would like to set. I enjoy incorporating mindfulness practices into sessions as a way for clients to explore how one can become more present and self-aware. I love the work I do and am extremely passionate about getting to know the true and authentic version of the person sitting across from me.
I am the owner of Tugboat Counseling and Consulting LLC and the sole operator. My enthusiasm for mental health and my enjoyment of being a performer is what led me to the creation of this business. Being able to provide these services, which I value so much, to the community is truly an honor.

Tugboat
Meet Tugboat. He is a yellow English Labrador who has ears made of velvet and a heart made of gold. This good boy was an inspiration for the name of my business, and he is also working diligently to become a certified therapy dog. Tugboat has no idea what personal space is, will play fetch all day long, and loves brightening the day of everyone he meets.
A tugboat’s main purpose is to help other vessels begin their journey by aiding their navigation through a certain area. These areas are often challenging or crowded, making it difficult for vessels to maneuver through on their own. Once a vessel is out of this challenging area, the tugboat and the vessel will part ways as the vessel continues on their journey. The vessel is not to be reliant on the tugboat for the entire journey. The role of a tugboat wonderfully embodies the duty I take on as a counselor and consultant.
